Interdistrict Forms (Transferring Out)

Interdistrict Transfering into Gustine Unified School District

“Interdistrict Transfers” (IDT) are required for students residing outside of Gustine Unified School District boundaries, who wish to attend a GUSD school. The approved interdistrict releases must be received by the Gustine Unified School District by May 1 to be considered. Please note that limitations in classroom space and district resources are primary factors in considering interdistrict transfer agreements. Gustine Unified School District (GUSD) gets involved only AFTER the school district of residence approves to release students from their jurisdiction. Incomplete requests will not be processed.

  • Contact your school district of residence and obtain an interdistrict transfer (IDT) form.

  • Once the completed form is reviewed and approved by the district of residence, a copy will be forwarded to GUSD.

  • Annual approved IDT releases must be received by GUSD on or before May 1.

  • New approved IDT releases must be received by GUSD on or before May 31.

  • Upon receipt of the approved IDT request, GUSD may request attendance, academic and behavioral records. During the prior academic year students are required to have 95% or higher attendance (to include tardies), a minimum GPA of 2.5 and zero suspensions for violations of EC 48900.

  • There is no guarantee that IDT requests will be approved by GUSD.  Parents are strongly encouraged to keep their student enrolled at their home school until the IDT is approved.

  • The IDT review process is, first and foremost, determined by the availability of space within Gustine USD.

  • The application for an IDT can be denied due to overcrowding within Gustine USD schools or limited district resources. GUSD will send written notification to the parent/legal guardian and the student's district of residence as to whether the application has been accepted or rejected within 30 days of receipt.

    • For an interdistrict transfer request received by the district 15 or fewer calendar days before the commencement of instruction in the
school year for which the transfer is sought, the district will notify the parent/guardian of its final decision within 30 calendar days from
the date the request was received.

    • For an interdistrict transfer request received by the district more than 15 days before the commencement of instruction in the school
year for which the interdistrict transfer is sought, the district will notify the parent/guardian of its final decision as soon as possible, but
no later than 14 calendar days after the commencement of instruction in the school year for which transfer is sought.

    • Parents or legal guardians have the right to appeal to the county board of education within 30 calendar days from the final date of denial.

    • IDT agreements shall be granted for a term of ONE school year and must be renewed for approval annually. (GUSD reserves the right to rescind an interdistrict transfer at any time during the school year for behavioral or attendance issues.)

Even if an Interdistrict Transfers is granted, it will be renewed and approved annually. Your student may be subject to displacement in future years due to increases in neighborhood enrollment at their chosen school or program.

Please note that transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

When applying for an Interdistrict Transfer (Into GUSD), parents must provide:

  • Child Care Affidavit, if applicable;

  • Proof of employment, if applicable; and
